The World Apple and Pear Association (WAPA) and COPA-COGECA are joining forces this year with the South Tyrolean Apple Consortium to host the 2015 Prognosfruit Congress. The organisers are pleased to announce that registration for the 2015 event is now open. PROGNOSFRUIT is a European’s leading annual event for the apple and pear sector where the production forecast for the upcoming season is released. This year is the 39th edition of Prognosfruit. Information and registration are now posted on the conference website: www.prognosfruit.eu

This year‘s conference will take place from the 5th to the 7th of August in Merano. Georg Kössler, President of the South Tyrolean Apple Consortium, commented: “We are very honoured to welcome this unique international apple and pear community in our region, one of the most significant in Europe. No doubt that in Merano we will build on the success of the previous editions to offer to delegates a professional programme in the great environment of South Tyrol.”

WAPA will release the apple and pear production forecast for 2015/2016 during the business conference on Thursday 6th August. The conference will also review some of the latest topical issues relevant for the apple and pear industry. Mr Hans Van Es, Chairman of the COPA-COGECA fruit and vegetables group, commented: “Much will have to be seen and learnt from an event in Merano, the base of some of the most experienced apple and pear producers in Europe.” Mr Van Es added: “Besides the usual solid and professional business programme, Prognosfruit 2015 will also provide delegates with a good mix of educational and social events, offering excellent networking opportunities prior to the opening of the new season.” Besides the forecast and market trends for the fresh and processed sector, several topical industry and policy issues will be tackled including research and innovation culminating with a visit to the Laimburg Research Center.

The conference brings together apples and pear growers, processors and traders from across Europe and beyond with an attendance of around 250 delegates. Philippe Binard, Secretary General of WAPA, confirmed: “Prognosfruit is a well established event on the agenda of the European apple and pear production. For this 39th edition, we are very pleased that the meeting returns to Italy. We are opening today the registration on the Prognosfruit website. Given the outstanding location and attractive programme, we expect a record participation this year.”
